Start Each Day with a Grateful Heart

Drowning in complete sorrow, I struggled to find my voice and very quickly let the feeling of defeat silence me.

The past few weeks have been trying for me, as I experienced a painful loss in my personal life. I had nothing to say. I did not even want to try. So I sat and cried for days on end and completely shut everyone out instead.

But in life, there are always things to be thankful for – if only you look hard enough…

Because I lost this one great thing in my life, I felt like I  had lost everything.  I started to take for granted all of the other blessings that are plentiful in my life because I was so focused on the one thing that I lost. Plaguing myself with questions like “I tried so hard and put in so much effort, how did that NOT work out the way I hoped it would?”

It’s hard when you have your entire heart set on something and you give it 100% of your effort. That disappointment tastes so bitter in your mouth when you realize that you were not successful even though you tried your very best… Sometimes in life, things do not go as we hoped. In fact, in my experience, things rarely ever go as planned (and I am basically a professional planner!)

It took a bit of effort on my part, but once I refocused and started to put my attention back on the positive things and all of my blessings, the weight on my shoulders began to feel lighter. It felt much better to start each day with a grateful heart.

When you find yourself in a similar situation, here is my advice to you:

  1. DO NOT stop giving 100% of your effort.
  2. DO NOT feel like this is the end of the world.
  3. DO NOT lose sight of all of the other blessings you have in your life.
  4. DO start each day with a grateful heart.

With Thanksgiving approaching and the holiday season upon us, I want to point out that it gets very easy to lose sight of your blessings because it is human nature to put your attention on the negative. But when you focus on the losses in life, it can very quickly spiral out of hand and you can find yourself sinking very quickly down a deep, dark, and scary rabbit hole.

Sometimes we just need a friendly reminder that everything will work out exactly how it is supposed to… Sometimes we just need a friendly reminder to be grateful for the many blessings we already do have in life… Sometimes we just need a friendly reminder that good things are coming, so just always have faith… THIS IS YOUR FRIENDLY REMINDER!
