Being disabled and in a wheelchair makes me feel cold all the time due to my lack of mobility, which in turn leads to poor circulation. 5 years ago, I decided that enough was enough. I was tired of being so cold all the time, so I decided to make a change and start an exercise routine. What I didn’t know then was that my exercise journey would change my life in the best way possible.
When I first started my fitness journey, people always asked me if I “saw a difference.” Initially, I didn’t notice any changes in my body. Now, though, I see a huge difference, not only my body, but also in the way I see myself. This transformation didn’t just change my body; it changed my life.
A few months back, I had a special event coming up and had imagined the ideal outfit in my head. It included a pair of jeans that I hadn’t worn in years and quite frankly, had dismissed as a possibility. I went shopping and for hoots, a tried on a pair of jeans. To my surprise, they fit perfectly! I was even more shocked when I realized that they were only a size 12. In that moment, I started to grasp how incredible my fitness transformation really was.
My fitness journey affected me on every level. The physical changes were obvious, but it also changed my mental framework and the way I view myself. I am so grateful for all fitness has taught me and those who have supported my since I started this transformation.
If you are in the middle of a transformation right now, know that it may not be easy at first, but in the end, your effort will be worth your time. Push yourself on the days when you don’t want to move forward. Keep your eyes on the prize, and find a support system to help you through the tough moments. Experiment until you discover what works for you. Be persistent. You’ve got this, and I’m so proud of you!
