If you are like me, you probably have a “normal” job. You get up every morning, go to work, go about your day, go home and do the same thing over and over again.
Deep down you know that this is not what you want to do with the rest of your life, but you do it because it’s convenient and it pays the bills. You know exactly what you want to do but something is holding you back, it could be fear of failure or what others might say.
I remember reading this quote that spoke volumes to me;
“I’d rather be a failure at something I love than be successful at something I hate”. -George Burns
That quote alone opened my eyes in so many ways. I can either continue to be a corporate boss at a place I am not happy at or I can pursue a writing career knowing that I will fail and be rejected many times. But I finally said fuck it, I am doing this. You know what, it’s okay if I never get millions of readers. It’s okay if I get rejected by websites and publishers. It’s okay if I spend years writing a book. It’s okay if I fail a million times. It’s okay because I am finally doing something that feels good.
For almost 30 years I worked very hard to look good on paper, to have a career and I put following my dreams in the back burner. Since a young age, I knew what I wanted to do, but I was afraid of failure. I knew I wanted to be a writer, but I was afraid I would never be good enough. I wanted to follow my dreams, but I was afraid of what others might think. I was afraid that I could never make my dreams into a reality, so I settled for an average life. I wasted so many years being afraid of failing instead of following my passions. But I have finally decided to do what I want to do with my life. I finally stopped listening to the negative voice inside my head.
We all have big dreams, but the sad thing is that not very many actually pursue them.
Don’t be afraid to live your dreams. Dreams are not silly, dreams fill your life with hope. It doesn’t matter how crazy and absurd your dreams sound to others. It doesn’t matter if they don’t agree. It doesn’t matter if they don’t support you. None of that matters because after all, they are your dreams, not theirs. You should never let other people stop you from going after something that you want. You need to do what you feel is best for you and for your life. Dreams don’t have to just live inside your head, you can turn them into a reality. You can build a life where you live with passion.
Don’t let fear stop you from living your dreams. If you listen to that fear then you will never accomplish anything at all because you let fear control you. You will have setbacks, face criticism, and skepticism along the way, but that’s part of the process. If you fail then you try again and again until you succeed. Don’t be so eager to abandon your dreams after some setbacks. Keep trying and put more faith in yourself and what you can do because you will be surprised everything that you can accomplish when you put everything you have into making your dreams become a reality.
Follow your heart and it will lead you to your dreams.
Work hard to live your dreams. Remember that this is YOUR life and you only get one life. You can either spend your years on earth living a life you hate or living a life you love. The only one that has control over that it’s you. You hold the steering wheel with your own to hands and you can change the direction of where your life is going.
Do not waste time. Time is something that you will never get back and you must use every second you have to keep moving forward towards your dreams.
I made the decision to live my dream, I encourage you to make the decision to live your dreams too.
Believe in yourself. Follow your heart. Live your dreams.
