I decided to download an application called Audible this past weekend. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Audible – it sells digital audiobooks, radio and TV programs, and audio versions of magazines and newspapers. (I stole that sentence from Googling “what is audible”)
The first book I decided to listen to, as opposed to reading which is something I truly love to do, is The Five Second Rule by Mel Robbins.
To put it simply: I’m obsessed.
A quick backgroud: Mel Robbins was a 41 year old jobless, broke, tired individual. She was feeling super sorry for herself. She was pushing snooze every morning like it was her job, since she didn’t have one, and she grew into this terrible habit of choosing to not take action within her life. Being drained continuously drained her. Weird how that works out. One day, she decided to “launch” herself out of her bed after watching a NASA rocket launch. She just randomly chose to count backwards from 5 and so began the foundation for The Five Second Rule. What is it? In one simple sentence:
“If you have an impulse to act on a goal, you must physically move within 5 seconds or your brain will kill the idea.”
No crazy spoilers. Go read it. There is one thing that has really stood out to me that I want to share with you today:
If you don’t start doing the things you don’t feel like doing, you will wake up one year from today and be in exactly the same place.
Makes sense, right?
You have goals. You have dreams. You have wants. You have needs. If you’re not doing anything to pursue them, you’re stagnant.
Be the person who decided to go for it. Be the person who chose their happiness. Be the person who chose their life.
You will thank yourself later.
How many times does January 1st have to pass? How many times do you need to tell yourself “I’ll start Monday?” You have the power of choice, the power to make decisions, every single day. Every morning you rise until every evening you lay, you essentially get to choose what happens in the middle.
One day or day one – you decide.
Invest in yourself. Choose you.
The fact that you’re reading this email to the end tells me that you already take some sort of interest in investing in yourself. Think about what you want from your life. Visualize it. Write it down. Prove to yourself that you are serious about taking action.
Let me know – how can I help you? I’m here. I’m listening. I’m ready.
Are you?
Peace signs and positive vibes,
simply hkp
