Why Routines Are Essential to My Life

Routines are a part of human nature. They are, in essence, how we survive.

I understand that some people prefer to be more spontaneous. They, too, have a sort of routine. They are just more willing to let it flow rather than have a strict schedule that they follow. I am most definitely more of a routine person, and I tend to like things to flow in an order. I am the type of person who likes the day to flow in an orderly fashion. To be honest, it helps me stay sane. This is especially important to me since I do not have a normal 9-5 job. Since I am an independent writer and work for myself, a routine is very important for motivation reasons. I say this because I have no boss to set the times that I should be working. I will be honest, sometimes, especially if I am having a hard pain day, my routine can be rather altered. On those days, I am forced to rest and take it easier because of the pain and fatigue levels. However, on a day when productivity is on a high, my schedule and routine is a very important part of my day. To give you an example of my routine, we will start with the mornings.

In the mornings, I wake up, fix breakfast, check my email, check social media, and then I try to spend at least two hours doing something creative. It could be writing an article like I am doing at the current moment, coloring a picture in one of my many coloring books, or reading a book.

Once those times are up, I usually try to fix lunch. Once lunch is ready, I allow myself to watch a little you tube or whatever may be on cable TV that interests me. At night time, I tend to shower and then watch the news, and additional TV programs that I like to watch. Depending on the time of year, these programs can vary. Then once those programs are over, I generally try to wind down for the night by watching a series or two on Netflix.

I realize that my routine may seem very simple in comparison to others. Especially those who are constantly on the go. However, I think that is what makes life so interesting. We all live differently, and I find it extremely interesting to follow other people’s routines. I think this comes as a result of me being a naturally curious person. The way that other people live and construct their lives enlightens my spirit and opens up my mind to even more outlets creatively. The routines of others inspire me to look more deeply into mine and examine the ways that mine might be able to improve. To me, routines are a way of life, and I am completely grateful for mine!
